Travel

If travel abroad is in your future plans, your best local medical resource is the Travel Clinic at the University of Georgia’s Health Center. These items are provided as part of a comprehensive Travel Visit done virtually:

  • Coordinate vaccines recommended or required for travel prior to departure, adhering to recommended vaccine schedules, and to provide immunity while traveling
  • Prescribe malaria chemoprophylaxis based on itinerary, specific activities and/or locations with risk of malaria
  • Educate on insect precautions for insect-borne diseases present in area of travel and specific to activities while there
  • Miscellaneous travel health advice specific to location of travel and activities while there and to include food and water precautions, traveler’s diarrhea criteria, and antibiotic for treatment of traveler’s diarrhea where appropriate
  • Coordinate COVID-19 testing in a time frame to meet travel requirements and provide travel documents to be picked up prior to departure – to include Fit-to-Travel Certificate, laboratory reports and immunization records

Appointments

Travel appointments are 30 minutes and done virtually. Appointment requests can be done as soon as itinerary is known, preferably 6-8 weeks prior to departure. We may offer in-person appointments

Please fill out the Travel Clinic Request Form and email to allergytravel@uhs.uga.edu. Our staff will contact you for scheduling.
    • Travel Clinic Request Form

Faculty/Staff and community members also include these two forms:
    • Patient Agreement Form (non-UGA students only)
    • Health History Form (non-UGA students only)

Service animals are restricted from the Allergy/Travel Clinic. Please see the UHC Service Animal Policy.

Missed Appointments

If necessary, cancel or reschedule your appointment by 24 hours on the preceding business day to avoid a $30 missed-appointment charge.

Fees and Insurance

Travel patients will be charged an office visit/virtual visit fee plus any applicable immunization or COVID-19 testing charges. We file with insurance at the time of service and will bill the patient for any uncovered charges. We encourage patients to check with their insurance company regarding the details of their coverage. More information on insurance

Any prescriptions given will be separate charges. We have an on-site pharmacy which is available for the convenience of our patients.
